ction

A corrective action is an action to eliminate the root cause of a detected non-conformity or other

undesirable situation while a correction is just an action to eliminate a detected non-conformity (also

know as a ‘quick fix’). It is recommended but not mandatory to involve experts during this phase.

When identifying a corrective action, consideration

shall

be given to:

x

Customer Focus;

x

Leadership;

x

Involvement of people;

x

Process approach;

x

System approach to management;

x

Continual improvement;

x

Factual approach to decision making;

x

Mutually beneficial supplier relationships;

When proposing a corrective action, attention

shall

be given to:

x

Efficiency and effectiveness: The solutions need to have a reasonable probability of solving the

problem. Moreover, a criteria of effectiveness

should

be defined by the

when applicable, in particular when treating ISO 9001 findings. When this criteria is reached,

the corrective action is considered as efficient and the finding can be closed.

x

Budget: The corrective action cost

shall

be within the budget of the Company and appropriate;

x

Employee Involvement: The employees affected by the problem

shall

be involved when identifying

causes;

x

Focus on Systems: The solutions

shall

be focused on systemic view. Employees do make mistakes,

but that is not usually the root cause of the problem.

If a non-conformity or deviation has various causes, it can be necessary to combine corrective actions.

Various non-conformities or deviations

shall

not be combined.

A corrective action:

x

including several processes or initiated by Quality

shall

be called Quality Corrective Action (see

4.2.3);

x

issued after an audit

shall

be called Audit Corrective Action (see 4.2.4).

In all cases, corrective action

shall

be approved by the respective
