4.1.2.1 Hoist zone

Regardless of the chosen location, the hoisting zone must be clear. Any antennas that could snag the hoist

cable

should

be lowered and any loose material that might be blown about by the rotor downwash

should

be

removed.

The Vessel

Master

can override this requirement if he/she deems that railings and safety nets must be

maintained in a raised position to ensure the safety of operational personnel (e.g. in case of significant

vessel movement, slippery deck, or windy conditions).

The helicopter pilot is responsible for the safety of his/her aircraft. He/she must be informed of any potential

hazards in the hoisting zone and retains the right to make the final decision on whether or not to carry out the

hoisting operation.

4.1.2.2 Fire-fighting team

A fire-fighting team must stand by in a safe location near the hoisting zone. They

should

be equipped with

two fire-hoses (or mobile foam extinguishers) for simultaneous use on the starboard and portside.

4.1.2.3 Rescue boat crew

The rescue boat (work boat or FRC) must be ready for immediate launching.
