Blanketing of Methanol tank with N2

Fill in the nitrogen bottles with the nitrogen generator. The nitrogen plant room

shall

be kept closed to avoid

nitrogen to fill other rooms. This room

shall

be equipped with an O2 sensor, and access is restricted only to

intervention on nitrogen system or other critical equipment by authorized persons. The person entering the

room for the purpose

shall

check the O2 level and carry an EEBD with him. A second person shall stand

outside, ready in case of nitrogen sudden release. Ventilation is kept on in this room during the whole

loading, this one

shall

be shut off immediately if a methanol release is expected on main deck.

Blanket the discharge pipe with nitrogen before tank blanketing is started.

Ensure that all discharge valves are closed.

Fill cofferdams with nitrogen. FW can be used as back-up.

Load methanol tanks with nitrogen, air is evacuated through the PV Valve. Remaining O2 shall not exceed

8% (IMO requirement IBC 19.8.3) to consider the tank as blanketed/inerted, and the pressure

shall

be

positive just over 0 bar.

depending on the vessels, this step requires around 36 hours.

Nitrogen shall be injected as slow as possible to avoid any mixing with air.

Check O2 rate from the PV Valve with portative gas detector.

Once the tanks are inerted and prior to load methanol, nitrogen bottles

shall

be fully filled.

The tanks are ready to receive methanol.
