E. Delivering PCP back to rig

Delivery of PCP back to rig can be done by two methods depending on charters preference.

a) Method 1 is the most common and here you have the towing pins fully retracted before you

release the wire stopper on crane operators command:

x

Rig crane is hooked up to pick-up wire, connected to PCP to be delivered.

x

Deck crew removes safety pin in wire stopper on command from officer in charge.

x

Wire stopper is released on agreement with rig crane operator.

b) Method 2 requires two wire slings attached to PCP. One to be used as pick-up wire for the

crane and one longer wire sling to be connected to ship’s tugger wire:

x

Towing pins to be retracted at all time. Pick up sling for crane (first wire sling) attached to

PCP to be pulled from wire stopper and aft through closed towing pins.

x

Second wire sling to be connected to ship’s tugger wire.

x

Rig crane to be hooked on pick up wire and tugger wire to be tensioned up before

removing safety pin and releasing wire stopper.

x

Tugger winch operator then slack out tugger wire until crane gradually takes the full

weight of PCP.

x

As soon as crane got the full weight of PCP, deck crew to release wire sling from slack tugger

wire (no tension on tugger wire).
